As the footy season kicks off fans of the Manly Sea Eagles are looking forward to their first game of the year. The first round against the New Zealand Warriors is a replay of last year’s glorious NRL Grand Final.
It was at last October’s Grand Final game that we were first introduced to Manly fan Jake Costa. Jake made headlines after he dropped down on bended knee and proposed to his girlfriend during the Grand Final frenzy.
When Jamie Lyon sent Manly fans wild after his premiership-sealing try, Jake Costa seized the moment. Surrounded by his mates and a sea of maroon and white, the man behind the iconic “Push It Up Manly” banner got on bended knee and proposed to his girlfriend, Kelly Kenton. Jake didn’t have a ring – but he does now! Soon afterwards Jake asked Dracakis jewellers to custom made a special engagement ring for Kelly.
When did you know she was the one? “In the four years that we’ve been together, she has made me the happiest person, and I want to hold on to that feeling forever.”
How did she react when you proposed? “She said a big YES… and then she cried. Thankfully they were tears of joy!”
How did the design of your ring come about? “I wanted maroon and white, to match Manly’s colours. Ruby and diamond was the closest, and with Nick Dracakis’ help, we came up with the design.”
What does Kelly think? – “I am so happy! I can’t wait for Jake and I to spend the rest of our lives together, and am so excited for our future. I’m very much looking forward to growing old with Jake!”
